Whistleblower & Retaliation Claims

Federal whistleblower laws prohibit adverse actions against employees who make formal complaints alleging unlawful actions in the workplace. Employers are strictly prohibited from punishing or penalizing any employee after they make a claim or complaint.

Retaliation claims are commonly associated with whistleblowing claims, but can also be results from workers compensation claims, taking a pregnancy leave, or reporting company violations. Retaliation may occur when employers do the following in response to employee complaints and claims:
• Creating a hostile work environment
• Demotion
• Refusal to promote
• Reducing hours or wage
• Negative work evaluations
